Federal warning issued after more infant deaths linked to recalled Boppy loungers.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has warned parents and caregivers to stop using Boppy Newborn Loungers after two more infants died following a mass recall of the product in 2021. The recalled products made by The Boppy Company include Boppy Original Newborn Loungers, Boppy Preferred Newborn Loungers, and Pottery Barn Kids Boppy Newborn Loungers. More than 3 million Newborn Loungers were recalled in September 2021 after eight infants died as a result of using the product. The CPSC warned that the loungers posed a risk of suffocation if infants rolled, moved, or were placed on the lounger in a position that obstructed breathing.

Federal warning issued as Boppy lounger linked to multiple infant deaths

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has warned parents to stop using recalled Boppy newborn loungers, which have been linked to at least 10 infant deaths. The loungers may cause infants to suffocate if they roll, move, or are placed on the lounger in a position that obstructs breathing, or roll off the lounger onto an external surface. Although the loungers can no longer be sold legally, they have still been available online through social media sites. The CPSC and Boppy are recommending anyone with Boppy newborn loungers to stop using them immediately and request instructions on how to dispose of them and ask for a refund from The Boppy Company through their website. The CPSC also reminded parents to set up a safe sleep environment for children.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and The Boppy Company have urged consumers to stop using the product and to contact Boppy for a refund. The CPSC is expected to consider new regulations for infant loungers in the coming weeks.
