"Innovative Piezoelectric Bone Bandage Accelerates Healing of Fractured Bones"
Researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology have developed a biomimetic scaffold that utilizes a piezoelectric material to promote bone tissue growth. The scaffold, which incorporates hydroxyapatite (HAp), a mineral found in bones and teeth, demonstrated the ability to generate electrical signals upon the application of pressure, mimicking the environment for bone tissue regeneration in a living body. The material showed promising potential for accelerating bone regeneration in in-vitro and in-vivo experiments in rats, offering a new direction for designing biomaterials and exploring the effects of piezoelectricity and surface properties on bone regeneration.
