"Breaking the Habit: Study Reveals Solution for Nail Biting and Skin Picking"
A new study suggests that a strategy called "habit replacement" can help individuals with body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRB) such as nail biting, skin picking, or hair pulling. The study found that gently touching the skin, such as by rubbing the fingertips or palm, at least twice a day helped 53% of participants reduce their unwanted behavior. This technique could be used alongside existing behavioral techniques like decoupling and habit reversal training. While more research is needed, this self-help approach shows promise in helping individuals manage BFRB symptoms.
