"Experience the 2024 Solar Eclipse: A Guide for the Visually Impaired"
In preparation for the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, a woman named Kiki Smith, who is blind, is organizing an inclusive public gathering in Rochester, N.Y., prioritizing accessibility for people with vision loss. The event will feature specially designed devices called LightSound, which translate changing light intensity into musical tones, allowing blind and visually impaired individuals to experience the eclipse through sound. Around 900 LightSound devices are being distributed across the United States to enable those with limited vision or blindness to participate in this rare celestial event.
