Cyberattack cripples MGM casinos and resorts in ransomware crisis

MGM Resorts has been targeted in a ransomware attack by the BlackCat ransomware group, also known as APLHV. The attackers claim to have infiltrated MGM's infrastructure, encrypted over 100 ESXi hypervisors, and exfiltrated data. They maintain access to some of MGM's infrastructure and are threatening to launch further attacks unless a ransom is paid. The group responsible, Scattered Spider, is believed to be a young English-speaking hacking group known for using social engineering attacks.
