Study Reveals High HIV Rates in Alabama Black Belt Compared to National Average
A recent study from the University of Alabama found that 11 counties in Alabama, particularly in the Black Belt region, have significantly higher HIV rates than the national average, with three counties having rates more than double the state average. The study revealed that access to preventative HIV drugs and stigma about the disease may be contributing factors. The population of the affected counties is majority Black, and the study emphasizes the importance of access to care and reliable information from trusted sources in combating the spread of HIV.
