NC State Auditor Beth Wood to Resign Amidst New Indictment Over Misuse of State Vehicles
North Carolina State Auditor Beth Wood, who was recently charged with using state-owned vehicles for personal errands, has announced her resignation effective December 15. Wood, a Democrat who has served four terms as state auditor, made the decision to step down to avoid being a distraction. An investigation found that she used at least one state-owned vehicle for personal purposes, including trips to hair and dental appointments, shopping centers, and spas. Wood's driving habits came under scrutiny after she crashed a state-issued vehicle into a parked car in December 2021. The charges against her remain pending, and the state will appoint a replacement auditor until the next election in 2024.
