Rampant Violence Claims Dozens of Lives in Nigeria's Benue State
At least 74 people were killed in two separate attacks by armed groups in Benue state, Nigeria. Violence has increased in the region due to competition over land use between farmers and nomadic herders. Benue has been hit hard by years of disputes between herders and farmers, which have often spiralled into broader criminality and tit-for-tat revenge attacks between informal armed groups established to protect rival communities.
