"Protecting Allegan County: Bat-Proofing Tips After Rabies Case"
The Allegan County Health Department in Michigan has reported the first case of rabies in the county this year, urging residents to take precautions to "bat proof" their homes as bats migrate. The department advises sealing any openings larger than a dime, using window screens, chimney caps, and draft guards, and recommends hanging clear plastic sheeting or bird netting to prevent bats from re-entering. Keeping pets' vaccines up-to-date is also emphasized, as well as reporting any bat exposures to the health department and seeking medical attention if bitten.
