Iconic Barton Springs pecan tree, Flo, removed after fungus diagnosis

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department has begun the removal process for a leaning tree known as "Flo" at Barton Springs Pool due to ongoing structural defects and a confirmed diagnosis of brittle cinder fungus, which has no cure and poses a life safety hazard. Overhanging parts of the tree have already been cut off and removed, with the main trunk remaining. A Celebration of Life ceremony was held to honor Flo's history, and PARD is collecting stories, memories, and photos of the tree.
