Eleven people died and around 50 were hospitalized due to sunstroke after attending an open-air award function in Khargar, on the outskirts of Mumbai, where the maximum temperature recorded was 38 degrees Celsius. The event was attended by India's home minister, Amit Shah, who presented an award to a social activist. India is likely to experience heat waves between March and May, according to the weather office.
