"Breakthrough: Australian Military Funds Human-Brain Cell Integrated Computer Chip"

The Australian military is funding a project to grow intelligent "mini-brains" in petri dishes, known as DishBrains, with the goal of designing better AIs and eventually merging them with human brain cells. Researchers at Monash University in Australia have already trained brain organoids to play Pong by stimulating electrodes in certain parts of the array to indicate the path of the ball and the location of the paddle. The next step is to address the issue of catastrophic forgetting in AI algorithms and develop systems capable of continual learning. Ultimately, the researchers aim to replace traditional computer chips with intelligent organoids to create advanced biocomputers. However, scaling up the number of cells in brain organoids and increasing their complexity remain significant challenges.

Australian War Hero Refuses to Apologize for Alleged War Crimes Verdict.

Ben Roberts-Smith, Australia's most decorated war veteran, has said he will not apologise for his actions in Afghanistan, despite being found by a civil court to have played a part in the murder of four Afghans. Roberts-Smith, who served in the Special Air Service on six tours from 2006 to 2012, was dismissed in his defamation case against three newspapers for articles accusing him of violating the rules of engagement and killing unarmed Afghans. The judge ruled that the newspapers had proven substantial truth in their reporting. Roberts-Smith has not been charged with any crimes.

Judge finds evidence of criminal behavior by Australian soldier Ben Roberts-Smith.

Ben Roberts-Smith, Australia's most decorated soldier, was "complicit in and responsible for the murder" of three Afghan men on deployment, according to a judge in one of the country's longest-running defamation trials. Roberts-Smith had sued three Australian newspapers for defamation after they reported he had murdered Afghans during multiple deployments to the country from 2006 to 2012. The judge ruled that the media outlets had proven substantial truth in their reporting, including that in 2012 Roberts-Smith kicked an unarmed and handcuffed Afghan man off a cliff and then ordered two soldiers in his unit to kill the badly injured man.

Australian decorated soldier Ben Roberts-Smith found guilty of war crimes.

Australian soldier Ben Roberts-Smith, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery, has lost his defamation suit against three newspapers that reported he had murdered Afghans during multiple deployments to the country. The court found that Roberts-Smith probably killed unarmed civilians in Afghanistan. The case comes amid a growing focus on the conduct of Australia’s military, with the landmark Brereton Report finding there was “credible evidence” members of the special forces had unlawfully killed 39 people while deployed in Afghanistan.
