A mysterious dog respiratory illness, known as Atypical Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (aCIRDC), has spread to at least 16 states in the U.S., including California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington. The illness causes symptoms such as fever, cough, and lethargy, and can be severe, sometimes leading to death. Dogs with flat faces or short snouts are particularly vulnerable. The cause and effective treatments for the illness are still unknown, but veterinarians recommend keeping dogs healthy, avoiding contact with sick dogs, and ensuring vaccinations are up to date. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the illness.
