Atlanta City Council to Vote on Controversial Public Safety Training Center Funding
Hundreds of people gathered at Atlanta City Hall to voice their opposition to the funding of a public safety training center, dubbed "Cop City," ahead of a vote by the Atlanta City Council. Opponents argue that the project is a waste of resources and that the funds should be invested in affordable housing, healthcare, and education. Councilmembers will vote on whether to transfer $31 million to the Atlanta Police Foundation for construction of the facility and $1 million for a gym. The rest of the funding would come from the APF, which is a private nonprofit.
