Biden's Border Policy Sparks Chaos and Criticism.

The Department of Homeland Security is mandating that asylum officers work both weekend days to deal with the surge of migrants at the southern border seeking to claim asylum in the US as the Title 42 public health order ends. The order has been in place since March 2020 and allowed for the rapid expulsion of migrants at the southern border. Border Patrol agents encountered over 10,000 migrants a day for at least three days this week so far, with multiple sectors facing overcapacity. The agency has sought to release migrants into the interior without court dates, but has been blocked by a court order handed down late Thursday.

Biden's Immigration Policy Continues to Draw Criticism and Concern.

Asylum officers are considering leaving their posts due to policy whiplash under President Joe Biden, as his administration contemplates restarting controversial Trump-era border policies that would largely limit who could seek refuge in the United States. A major point of contention is a new proposed regulation that largely bars migrants who traveled through other countries on their way to the US-Mexico border from applying for asylum in the United States, marking a departure from decadeslong protocol. The dissatisfaction among asylum officers over stringent asylum policies is reminiscent of the Trump years.
