Tragic Murder: 10-Year-Old Rockford Girl Found Dead, Suspect Charged
A man from Blue Island, Antonio Monroe, has been charged with first degree murder, attempted murder, two counts of kidnapping, and aggravated battery/strangulation after a 10-year-old girl was found dead in Rockford. The incident occurred after a call from a woman reporting that her 6-year-old daughter came home and said a man took her older sister. Police found the unresponsive girl and administered CPR, but she was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Monroe was apprehended by a Rockford police officer with a K9 unit and will be transported to the Winnebago County Jail after being released from a local hospital.
