Arrest Made in Tragic Death of 10-Year-Old Rockford Girl

A registered sex offender from Blue Island, Antonio Monroe, has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, two counts of kidnapping, and aggravated battery/strangulation after a 10-year-old girl was found dead in Rockford. The incident occurred after a call from a woman reporting that a man had taken her 10-year-old sister. Police found the unresponsive child and administered CPR, but she was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Monroe was apprehended by a Rockford police officer with a K9 unit and will be transported to the Winnebago County Jail after being released from a local hospital.
