Benghazi 2012 suspect extradited to face U.S. charges
The FBI arrested Zubayar al-Bakoush, a suspected member of Ansar al-Sharia linked to the 2012 Benghazi attack that killed four Americans, and transferred him to the United States. He faces a seven-count indictment in Washington, D.C., including murder, attempted murder, arson, and providing material support to terrorists, and is due to appear in court. Prosecutors say he participated in the assault on the U.S. mission and the nearby CIA annex; authorities note more suspects remain at large. Two other Libyans previously prosecuted in the case include Ahmed Abu Khatallah (acquitted of murder but convicted on other counts) and Mustafa al-Imam (convicted in 2019).
