The law aims to crack down on animal mistreatment, particularly of domestic animals, and introduces fines for offenders. Spain has implemented a new Animal Welfare Law aimed at combating animal mistreatment, abandonment, and slaughter. The law prohibits the use of spikes, electric shock collars, and tying animals to moving vehicles. It also bans circuses with animals and the commercialization of pets in stores. Pet owners will need to complete training courses and obtain liability insurance for dogs. The law sets limits on leaving pets unattended, restricts pet ownership to a maximum of five animals, and requires responsible breeding practices. Certain animals, such as dangerous or poisonous species, cannot be kept as pets.
