An elderly woman and 55 pit bulls were rescued from a home in southwest Albuquerque after deputies found them in various stages of neglect and starvation. The mother was also found to be severely neglected and in need of medical care. Both of her sons were arrested and charged with extreme animal cruelty and neglect of a resident. The surviving dogs were taken to the Bernalillo County Animal Resource Center for treatment, and some were sent to a sanctuary in Utah.
