Avian flu outbreak prompts mass euthanization of birds in California
Around 250,000 birds have been euthanized in California after testing positive for avian flu at two farms in the Bay Area. Concerns over the spread of the virus prompted the decision, with two farms in Sonoma County reporting positive avian flu tests among their birds. The California Department of Food and Agriculture confirmed the cases. While the strain is considered low risk to human health, it is highly contagious and often fatal in birds.
