DHS to Open New ICE Detention Center at Angola Prison in Louisiana
The Department of Homeland Security has opened a new immigration detention facility called Camp 57 inside Louisiana's Angola prison to house over 400 undocumented immigrants convicted of serious crimes, including murder and rape, as part of a partnership with the state. The facility, renovated quickly from a former disciplinary camp, is designed to be highly secure and is part of a broader effort to transfer and detain dangerous criminal aliens, raising concerns about increased transfers and their impact on detainees' contact with loved ones and legal representatives.
