Google has announced that the latest update to the Android Runtime (ART) has led to apps starting up to 30% faster on some devices. ART is responsible for running applications on the Android operating system and provides runtime and core APIs. The update includes runtime and compiler optimizations, resulting in improved app startup times, execution speed, memory usage, and bytecode compilation efficiency. Google also mentioned upcoming enhancements in ART 14, including new compiler and runtime optimizations, reduced code size, and the adoption of OpenJDK 17. These updates are currently available on Android 12 and newer, with availability for Android Go coming soon.
