
Jonathan Alger Leaves JMU to Become President of American University
Jonathan Alger, the president of James Madison University (JMU), will be stepping down to become the president of American University in Washington, D.C., effective July 1, 2024. During his 12-year tenure at JMU, Alger has overseen significant growth and achievements, including elevating the university to national prominence, expanding academic programs, increasing diversity and inclusion efforts, and enhancing the university's financial standing. The JMU community will soon begin the process of selecting an acting president and initiating the search for the next university president.
