Linus Torvalds Calls for Disabling AMD's 'Stupid' fTPM HWRND
Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, has expressed frustration with the AMD fTPM hardware random number generator (RNG) bugs on recent Ryzen systems. Users have reported stuttering issues caused by the fTPM RNG, even after patches and firmware updates. Torvalds suggested disabling the fTPM for runtime use, as the CPU's rdrand instruction could be a more reliable alternative. He speculated that the issues may be related to BIOS code rather than the CPU microcode. Torvalds' comments may put pressure on resolving the AMD fTPM issues under Linux.
