Yamandú Orsi Leads Uruguay's Center-Left Resurgence
Yamandú Orsi, a left-wing former history teacher, has won Uruguay's presidential election, defeating conservative candidate Álvaro Delgado. Orsi's victory marks the return of the Broad Front coalition to power after five years of conservative rule. Orsi, a protege of former President José Mujica, emphasized unity and economic inclusivity in his campaign. The Broad Front also secured a majority in the Senate, though not in the Chamber of Representatives. Outgoing President Luis Lacalle Pou pledged a smooth transition ahead of Orsi's swearing-in on March 1.
