Sarah Polley's Daughter Pulls Off Epic Oscar Prank
Canadian filmmaker Sarah Polley received a letter stating that she had won her Oscar in error and needed to return it to the Academy. However, she later discovered that the letter was an April Fool's prank from her 11-year-old child. The letter stated that the Academy had realized their mistake on the night of the Oscars but wanted to avoid another La La Land/Moonlight blunder. Polley won the Oscar for best adapted screenplay for Women Talking. The letter asked her to return the award to California and said it would go to the rightful winner, All Quiet on the Western Front.
