Alcorn State Football Coach Fred McNair Replaced by Cedric Thomas
Alcorn State University has announced that head football coach Fred McNair will not be returning for the 2024 season. The university has promoted defensive coordinator Cedric Thomas to replace him. McNair had reportedly been in negotiations to become the head coach at Texas Southern. The university and McNair were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract. Thomas, who rejoined Alcorn's staff in 2022, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the team and build on the foundation laid by previous coaches. McNair, who has deep ties to Alcorn State, coached the team for seven seasons and led them to four division titles and two conference championships.
