Three horses owned by Iowa-based Albaugh Family Stables, including one of the favorites, Angel of Empire, will compete in the 149th Kentucky Derby. The stable also has Jace’s Road and Cyclone Mischief in the race. The Kentucky Derby has a $3 million purse, with the winner taking 60%.
Cyclone Mischief, a horse owned by Iowa-based Albaugh Family Stables, is set to compete in the Kentucky Derby after Practical Move was scratched due to a fever. Cyclone Mischief joins two other horses from the same stable, Jace's Road and Angel of Empire, in the 20-horse field. Winning the Kentucky Derby is on the bucket list of owner Denny Albaugh, who has had several horses qualify in recent years but has yet to win the race.
