Airlines Face Backlash Over New Carry-On Bag Fees
Air Canada will start charging basic-economy travelers fees for carry-on bags larger than a handbag or small backpack starting January 3, aligning with similar policies by other Canadian carriers. The new policy, which includes a $25 fee for the first carry-on and $36 for a second, has sparked outrage and criticism from Canadian lawmakers, including Federal Transport Minister Anita Anand, who called the fees "not acceptable." The airline will also charge for seat changes on low-fare tickets, drawing further backlash.
