"US Urges Recall of 52 Million Airbag Inflaters Over Explosion Concerns"
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is recommending a recall of approximately 52 million airbag inflaters used by 12 major carmakers due to safety concerns. The inflaters, manufactured by ARC Automotive and Delphi Automotive Systems, have been linked to seven injuries and one death. The NHTSA found that ARC inflaters could explode more violently than intended during airbag deployment. ARC rejected the agency's initial findings. The recall would affect vehicles made between 2000 and 2018 and used by automakers such as BMW, Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Kia, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Stellantis, Tesla, Toyota, and Volkswagen.
