M.S. Swaminathan, an Indian agricultural scientist known for his role in the "Green Revolution" that helped feed millions of people, has passed away at the age of 98. Swaminathan introduced high-yield crop varieties, irrigation, and fertilizers to Indian agriculture, significantly increasing wheat and rice production. His work transformed India into one of the world's top producers of these staple crops. Swaminathan aimed to make agriculture sustainable and resilient to climate change, advocating for an "Evergreen Revolution." His contributions to food security earned him the inaugural World Food Prize in 1987.
