The driver of the concrete truck involved in the fatal Hays school district bus crash admitted to using cocaine and getting only three hours of sleep before the incident. Despite this admission, the district attorney stated it could be difficult to prove impairment. The crash resulted in the deaths of a pre-K student and a doctoral student, with numerous others injured. The concrete truck bears the logo of FJM Concrete Pumping LLC, and the company has one driver and one "power unit." The investigation is ongoing.
Country music star Darius Rucker is facing misdemeanor drug charges stemming from a February 2023 traffic stop in Williamson County, where an officer found a clear baggie containing 14 unstamped purple pills and a suspected black THC pen in his pickup truck. The pills were later identified as Psilocyn. Rucker, who turned himself in and was released on bond, is fully cooperating with authorities, and a court date has been set for April 11.
A man has been charged with murder in a deadly shooting that occurred in southeast Austin. According to an affidavit, the suspect, identified as Elvin Salvador Tinoco-Orosco, allegedly shot and killed Jader Francisco Tinoco-Salgado. Surveillance footage showed Tinoco-Orosco walking back to his truck after the shooting and later returning to the scene where he placed Tinoco-Salgado on top of him. Tinoco-Orosco was arrested and is facing a first-degree felony murder charge.
Additional portions of the affidavit used by the FBI to obtain a search warrant for Mar-a-Lago, former President Donald Trump's private club and residence, have been unsealed, revealing new details about the evidence cited by the Justice Department. The unredacted sections of the affidavit mentioned surveillance footage showing Trump's aide, Walt Nauta, moving boxes in and out of a storage room before federal prosecutors arrived. The affidavit also highlighted discrepancies in the number of boxes returned and suggested that sensitive records remained at Mar-a-Lago. However, the reasons for this belief and a long section of the affidavit remain under seal.
A newly unsealed affidavit details the final moments of 5-year-old Harmony Montgomery, who was fatally beaten by her father for having bathroom accidents in the car. The affidavit states that the attacks occurred three times “over the course of a few minutes.” After the final blow, Montgomery allegedly turned to his now-estranged wife, Kayla, and said: “I think I really hurt her this time.” Montgomery allegedly placed her lifeless body in a black and red Under Armour duffle bag he had in the trunk. It would take another two years for authorities to learn that Harmony was even missing. Montgomery was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with Harmony’s death. To date, Harmony’s remains have not yet been located.
