Fatal Contaminated Cider Outbreak in Russia Leaves 30 Dead
Adulterated cider, branded as "Mister Cider", has killed 30 people and sickened dozens more in western Russia. The cider contained lethal amounts of methanol, a toxic alcohol. One person has been detained on suspicion of causing death by negligence, and the drink has been withdrawn from sale. Russia has tightened controls on alcohol production and sale after previous incidents, but the consumption of homemade alcohol remains a problem.
