Young Woman's Persistence Saves Her from Rare and Deadly Tumor
Raquel Doke, a 28-year-old veterinary resident, was diagnosed with a rare form of adrenal cancer that caused bloating, acne, and muscle wasting due to excess hormones. Doctors initially told her surgery was too risky, but she eventually found a surgeon who removed the 13-centimeter tumor, along with one kidney, several lymph nodes, and the lesions on her liver. She is now in partial remission from her cancer thanks to the surgery, chemotherapy, and a new regimen of IV immunotherapy.
