Continued defiance: France rallies against police violence
Thousands of people gathered in central Paris for a memorial rally to commemorate the death of Adama Traore, a Black man who died in police custody in 2016. The march was part of nationwide protests denouncing police brutality and racial profiling. Despite a court ban, around 5,900 people took to the streets across France. The protests come amid heightened tensions following days of rioting sparked by the police killing of a 17-year-old of Algerian origin. France's Foreign Ministry rejected accusations of structural racism made by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
