UAE's ADNOC Accelerates Net Zero Climate Target to 2045
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has advanced its target for achieving net zero carbon emissions by five years to 2045, ahead of the United Arab Emirates hosting the UN climate conference in December. ADNOC, which plans to expand its oil and gas production, also revealed its emissions for the first time, reaching approximately 24 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2022. The company aims to reduce its carbon intensity by 25% by 2030 and had previously committed to a methane intensity target of 0.15% by 2025. However, ADNOC did not mention Scope 3 emissions, which account for the majority of emissions from the burning of the fuel it produces.
