Venice's Heritage Safe: UNESCO Excludes City from Endangered List

UNESCO has decided not to include the city of Venice and its lagoon on its World Heritage in Danger list, after previously warning that Italy was not doing enough to protect the city from overtourism, development, and climate change. The decision was welcomed by the Italian culture ministry, who described the attempt to register the city as "purely political." However, the World Heritage Committee acknowledged that Venice still faces significant challenges and urged Italy to continue protecting the site.
