UAE denies South Africa's request to extradite Gupta brothers over corruption charges.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has dismissed South Africa's request to extradite Atul and Rajesh Gupta, who are accused of political corruption, due to the extradition request not meeting the "strict standards for legal documentation" contained in an extradition treaty ratified with South Africa in April 2021. However, the UAE said the extradition request could be resubmitted with new and additional documentation. South Africa's Justice Minister Ronald Lamola said the country would "promptly appeal" the decision. The Indian-born Gupta brothers left South Africa after Jacob Zuma was unseated in 2018.
