The Complex Geopolitics of Sudan's Conflict and Foreign Influence.

Sudan's top two generals are fighting for control, putting at stake some of Africa's most important strategic resources, including the Nile Dam, access to crucial shipping lanes, and some of the continent's largest gold mines. Outside powers, including Russia, Egypt, and the Gulf states, are trying to influence the outcome of the conflict by offering weapons and other military support to rival factions, which could prolong the lethal confrontation between Sudan's military and a state-sponsored militia.
