Hungary's ruling party introduces bill to safeguard national sovereignty

Hungary's ruling Fidesz party, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, has submitted a bill to parliament aimed at protecting national sovereignty and countering foreign political interference. The bill proposes the establishment of a separate authority to monitor and address risks of political interference, as well as penalties for banned foreign financing of parties or groups running for election. Orban, who has clashed with the European Union over democratic rights in Hungary, has denied accusations of undermining democracy. The bill comes as Orban's party gears up for the European Parliament elections next year.
