Far-right gains support in Germany, alarming centrist parties.

A new poll conducted by infratest dimap for public broadcaster ARD shows that support for the far-right faction Alternative for Germany (AfD) has reached a record high of 18%, on a par with Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats. Prominent members of German mainstream parties have expressed alarm at the poll results, with some calling it a "disaster" and an "alarm signal for all parties of the center." The poll also revealed that about two-thirds of those who supported AfD did so in protest over other parties, rather than because they were convinced by the far-right’s policies.
