Belarusian Dissident Roman Protasevich Receives 8-Year Sentence.

Belarusian opposition activist Roman Protasevich has been sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of inciting unrest and other offences. Protasevich was arrested in May 2021 after his Ryanair flight was forced to land in Minsk. His arrest and subsequent sentencing have caused international outcry and led to the EU imposing sanctions against Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. Protasevich's family has claimed that he was forced into making fake confessions and issuing apologetic statements on state television.
