BBC summoned to Indian court over Modi documentary defamation case

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the BBC seeking its response in a defamation case over a documentary on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that questioned his leadership during the 2002 Gujarat riots. The suit was filed on the basis that the documentary "casts a slur on the reputation of the country" and "makes false and defamatory imputations and insinuations" against its prime minister, judiciary, and criminal justice system. The court sought a response from the broadcaster by Sept. 25.
