Sailors aboard the USS Carney have been awarded for their defensive actions against Houthi rebel attacks in the Red Sea. The destroyer, part of the Gerald R. Ford carrier strike group, successfully intercepted numerous missiles and drones during its deployment. Vice Adm. Brad Cooper awarded combat medals to five sailors, and the entire crew received the combat action ribbon, a distinction not commonly awarded since the 1991 Gulf War. The U.S. has not retaliated against Houthi positions in Yemen but is actively working to ensure the safety of maritime commerce in the Red Sea.
