France and the United States are leading a coalition of 23 countries to provide artillery and ammunition to Ukraine, aiming to boost Ukraine’s artillery capacity in the short term. The coalition seeks to finance the purchase of 72 Caesar howitzers for Ukraine in 2024, with other members including Germany, the U.K., Canada, and Poland. The move comes as NATO countries have provided various artillery pieces to bolster Ukraine’s firepower, and France has allocated €50 million to buy 12 Caesar guns for Ukraine, appealing to coalition allies to contribute about €280 million for an additional 60 howitzers.
