Ukraine at risk of becoming a 'frozen' conflict, warn U.S. officials

US officials are considering the possibility of the Russia-Ukraine war turning into a frozen conflict that could last for decades. The Biden administration is discussing potential lines that Ukraine and Russia would agree not to cross, but which would not have to be official borders. A frozen conflict could be a politically palatable long-term result for the United States and other countries backing Ukraine. The US officials are also thinking through the long-term security ties Washington will have with Kyiv, as well as Ukraine’s relationship with the NATO military alliance.
