China's view of Taiwan as an internal challenge has not changed despite Russia's invasion of Ukraine, according to a report by the International Institute for Strategic Studies. The report also said that China's decision-making on Taiwan would be shaped by an assessment of military capability and likely US and allied non-military reactions. Attendees at the regional security summit in Singapore include US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov. US and Chinese defense chiefs are not expected to meet this year.
