Somalia's Integration into the East African Community

Somalia has officially joined the East African Community (EAC) in a move aimed at revitalizing its economy after years of conflict. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud sees this as a "beacon of hope" for Somalia, offering opportunities and prosperity. However, concerns have been raised about the potential ease of movement for al-Shabab fighters within the region. Somalia's admission into the EAC was preceded by months of lobbying and negotiations, with the country having to address issues of corruption and governance. The EAC aims to expand its market size by integrating all countries in the Horn of Africa, with Djibouti and Ethiopia expected to join in the future.
