Russian Su-35 Fighter Scrambles to Intercept US Bombers Near Baltic Border

A Russian Su-35 fighter jet was scrambled over the Baltic Sea on Monday after two US B52H strategic bombers flew towards the Russian border, but returned to base after the US planes moved away. The incident follows the first known direct military encounter between Russia and the US since Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year, when a US drone was intercepted by Russian jets and crashed into the Black Sea. The Russian defence ministry said the Su-35's flight was strictly in line with international rules of the use of airspace and no violation of the state border of the Russian Federation was permitted.
